Ladies and Gentlemen

I am very happy to be accorded the opportunity to welcome you all to today’s august ceremony. I therefore on behalf of the Chief’s and people of Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality welcome everybody, especially the Hon. Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Hon. Antwi Bosiako Sekyere and all other special invited Guest to Teshie Nungua and precisely to the premises of the Assembly’s Head office where this ceremony is taking place.

Hon. Guest of Honour, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this Assembly was established by L. I 1865 on 1st November, 2007 which makes it barely three and half years old. The first Assembly functioned with only fifteen (15) Assembly Members with two (2) MP’s, MP for Ledzokuku and MP for Krowor.

The inception of the Assembly was not without teething challenges such as office and residential accommodation, inadequate staff and a number of Socio-economic and cultural problems.

The Assembly was however determined to justify its creation and as such prepared a development plan spelling out strategies to surmount these challenges.

The major activity initiated by the Assembly was the revenue mobilization drive.

The Internally Generated Fund (IGF) together with the Assembly’s share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund has since been used to execute one hundred and thirty-four (134) projects.

Hon. Guest of Honour, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish to further inform you that the Assembly is not resting on its oars and as such has developed a new Medium Term Development Plan which places emphasis on the three pillars of the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS2); private sector competiveness, good Governance and civic responsibility and Human Resource Development.

The Assembly has acquired a property which has been renovated to house its offices. We have also started the construction of the permanent Assembly Office Complex. Let me further state that the Assembly has also paid attention to the education, health, water and roads sectors where a number of projects and programmes have been executed with the Assembly’s development funds.

Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen, as we are about to inaugurate our second assembly, I will have to pay homage to members of the 1st Assembly for the pioneering role they played in bringing the Assembly this far. I must confirm that they worked under difficult conditions to bring the message of Local Government Administration and development to the people.

I am glad that as a result of their hard work, their electorate has found it reasonable to return almost all of them back to the Assembly to continue to represent them. For the new members, I wish to welcome you to the team and hope that you will bring your expertise to bear on the performance of this Assembly.

I cannot bring this welcome address to an end without acknowledging the immense support this Assembly has received from Central Government and the Regional Co-ordinating Council, our Traditional Authorities, our Development Partners, youth Groups, Religious bodies, Women’s Groups, Resident Associations, Financial Institutions and many individuals. It is my prayer that this cordial relation will continue to grow in the interest of the Municipality.

Let me assure everybody however that this Assembly will continue to carry out its functions under its mandate without fear our favour. It
