CLASSROOM BLOCK WITH ANCILLARY FACILITIES AT TESHIE NORTHERN CLUSTER OF SCHOOLS ON 24TH JULY, 2012

The Chairperson,

Hon. Presiding Member,

Hon. Assembly Members,

Municipal Director of Education,

Heads of Department,

Nii Mei Ke Naa Mei,

Head Teachers and Teachers present,

Pupils,

Friends from the Media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly, I wish to extend a warm welcome to all gathered here for this august occasion.

I feel privileged to be given the opportunity as the Municipal Chief Executive to address this occasion and to commission this edifice, comprising a Two (2) Storey Six (6) Unit Classroom Block which cost GH¢204,128.92 to complete. I am very proud to say that the full cost of this project has been solely funded from the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the Assembly. This is a vivid indication that the levies and rates the Assembly collects from you are invested into useful ventures and to the benefit of the future generation.

Chairperson, the importance of education and training can not be overemphasized because of the transformational effect it has on the individual and society, through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and experience. The Assembly has in recognition of this fact, made the provision of education infrastructure one of its topmost priorities. As a demonstration of our commitment towards improving the standard of education, we have since 2010 to date channeled over GH¢1,544,663.09 of our resources into the provision of education facilities. These spans from building of Classroom Blocks, provision of furniture, libraries, dormitories etc. Indeed

we have so far put up eighteen (18) school buildings in the Municipality and today’s ceremony marks the beginning of plans we have initiated to commission all the completed facilities for onward handover to our Education Directorate for use by the pupils.

As an Assembly, we have also collaborated with Government in the provision of free Exercise Books and School Uniforms as well as the implementation of the School Feeding Programme. I am glad to announce that, the Assembly is presently catering for two thousand (2000) pupils under the School Feeding Programme from its own resources.

The vast investment that the Assembly has put in the education sector is for a good course and aimed at providing quality education to children in the Municipality and to enable them excel when they eventually assume the leadership mantle. We as an Assembly will therefore continue to do all that is necessary to ensure that quality education thrives in the Municipality.

In view of this, the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly has earmarked a number of projects on education this year and these include:

- Construction of Kitchen for National School Feeding Programme at Teshie Northern Cluster

- Construction of Kitchen for National School Feeding Programme Teshie Camp 2 School

- Fabrication and supply of 100 sets of Teachers’ Tables and Chairs

- Fabrication and Supply of 50 Sets of Pre-School Furniture

- Fabrication and Supply of 50 No. Cardboards

- Fabrication and Supply of 400 No. Mono Desks for JHS

- Continuation and Completion of fence wall at Teshie Northern Cluster of Schools

- Rehabilitation of Teshie Community Library

Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen, permit me to indicate that the Assembly will only be able to attain its objective with the collaborative effort of parents and the community at large. For if I may ask, what is the use of classrooms, exercise books, furniture etc. if parents refuse to send their children to school to be trained to become responsible adults in future.

Let me take this opportunity to also announce that in order to increase the stock of second cycle schools in the Municipality, the Assembly is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to relocate O’ Reilly Senior High School to LEKMA. This initiative when consummated would provide additional access for pupils who want to continue their education at the secondary level.

Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen, because we are in the era of technology, we have incorporated into our new school blocks Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities and libraries, to ensure that pupils will not need to go far to access these facilities.

I wish on this note therefore to advise school pupils in this Municipality to take advantage of the advancement in technology to explore issues that will benefit them. They should study hard and search for information that will be useful for their studies and broaden their horizon. They should be disciplined and shun away from social vices which are destructive to their life aspirations.

Our aim as an Assembly is to develop all areas of the Municipality by providing not only educational facilities but also infrastructural development in other areas of importance which has also necessitated the following projects for the year:

- Construction of 10 Seater W/C at Teshie Northern Cluster of Schools

- Construction of 10 Seater W/C at
