Ladies and Gentlemen
It is my pleasure to be part of this afternoon’s Commission Ceremony. I believe today’s occasion is not only special but also memorable, and I know you also share this view.
We indeed appreciate your honouring of our invitation and your continue support to the Assembly.
Ghana has sought over the years to accelerate its Development agenda through the adoption of Local Administration Policies which eventually culminated into the promulgation of the Local Government Act, 1993, Act 462, which establishes the District Assemblies. This was in recognition that decentralization holds the key to the proper and orderly development of the country and its economy, as well as the eventual eradication of the debilitating ills of poverty, ignorance and diseases in our communities.
It is against this background that I feel honoured to have the privilege as the Municipal Chief Executive to address this occasion and to commission this Six (6) Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facility and Six (6) seater W/C Toilet facility for Camp`2’ Schools at a cost of GH¢149,473.48 which was solely funded by HIPC Fund.
Chairperson, the NDC government during the years has undertaken numerous and unprecedented development projects in this Municipality. The Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality have been a great beneficiary of the NDC government’s good policies such as the expanded School Feeding Programme, free text books, free school uniforms, and provision of School Infrastructure facilities and computers, to mention but a few.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Assembly has also channel a lot of its resources from the DACF, DDF, and IGF into the education sector by way of provision of School Infrastructure and award of scholarships to brilliant but needy children. We have also invested massively in the construction of roads, bridges, culverts, drains, and water storage facilities, sanitary facilities such as places of convenience, refuse evacuation, health facilities and streetlights.
Nii Mei Ke Naa Mei, the vast investment that the Assembly and the Central Government and its agencies have put into education is for a good cause and aimed at providing quality education to our Children, who are the future leaders of this Great Nation, Ghana. As we are no doubt aware, education has long been recognized as the rock of National Development. Without quality education, it will be difficult for the nation to achieve its development aspirations including International goals such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially goals one (1),two(2), and six (6) which are children issue related.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish on this note to call on parents in this Municipality to make education of their children a priority and placed on high pedestal. As parents it is our responsibility to ensure that our children are given the quality education that will lift them out of poverty, and deprivation. We can do this by providing them with the basic needs for quality education.
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen, permit me to indicate that the Assembly will only be able to attain its objective with the collaborative effort of
parents and the community at large. For if I may ask, what is the use of Classrooms, Exercise Books, and Furniture etc. if parents refuse to send their children to school to be trained to become responsible adults in future.
Chairperson, we as an Assembly in conjunction with Government will continue to do all that is necessary to ensure that quality education thrives in the Municipality.
Nii Mei Ke Naa Mei, Friends from the Media, The Assembly has awarded a contract for the Construction of Kitchen facility for the Ghana National School Feeding Programme at Teshie Camp ‘2’ School which is expected to be completed in due course.
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen, on the account of what have
been said, I am convinced that the Assembly’s development agenda on education is on course especially with the commendable support from HIPC. I thank all for being part of this august gathering and hope the school authorities, Teachers and Parents whose children attend this school will ensure that the facility is taken good care of and maintained to prolong its life span.
Chairperson, I now have the singular honour to formally declare the Six (6) Unit Classroom Block and other facilities on the Teshie Camp `2’ Primary Schools Compound dully commissioned.
I thank you all for your attention.
