The Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) on Wednesday February 8, 2017, hosted some Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the Municipality. As part of the Assembly’s effort to support the physically challenged in society, beneficiaries were given money from the Disability Fund which is taken from the District Assembly Common Fund.

Addressing the audience, Madam. Regina Dodoo, National Chairperson for PWDs tasked beneficiaries to use the money being given them as start-up capital for their businesses since that was the purpose for which the fund was set up. ‘The money given out are not to be spent on funerals, parties and out doorings but on something that will bring about progress to the individual” she added.

On his part, Mr. Kodjoe Dekpo, the Municipal Coordinating Director, explained that the Disability Fund has come to stay, regardless of the change in government. He further revealed that GH₵29,000.00 was disbursed to PWDs in May 2016. According to him, GH₵49,000.00 are being disbursed to a total of 64 beneficiaries at the function. He entreated other PWDs to join or form associations to make it easy to access and enjoy benefits from the fund. Mr. Dekpo also admonished beneficiaries to use monies given them profitably as a committee will be deployed to monitor and assess how beneficiaries are using the funds received.
